Description
I wanted to share with you how I create a final draft for my finished artwork. As a general rule, I will always create at least three rough sketches of ideas that I want to draw. I’ve learned that usually the first two sketches are okay but not great. The more I sketch the better the drafts are and creative ideas flow. Sketch #1 is my original rough draft for “Tool Shed”. This was my first painting that sold in an art show last June. A friend of mine was dissapointed that she could not purchase the original but was ready to settle with a print. I suggested that I could re-create this painting but "improve and enhance it". She agreed. So I created sketches 2 thru 7. There are five features that I wanted to keep in each sketch (the tool shed, forest, fence posts, wild flowers, and cactus). As I drew the perspective changed and I added a new feature…reflecting pools of rain water. The final 2 sketches (#6 & 7) combine all of these features. I am currently working on a painting for #6 and then I will do #7. I will keep you posted on the process.
